Hybrid Courses: Advantages and Disadvantages

Hybrid courses are a combination of traditional face-to-face courses and online courses. They are becoming more and more popular in both the undergraduate and graduate years.

Advantages:


  • Can fit into a working student's schedule better

  • Students can work at their own pace

  • Combines the best aspects of face-to-face and online courses

  • Gives professors a more flexible schedule

Disadvantages



  • Requires careful planning to combine online and face-to-face

  • Requires students to have very strong time management skills

  • Would not work for a student who cannot manage their schedule well

  • Potentially less knowledge retetion then traditional face-to-face classes
